Learning Through Play Years 0-4
Here at Wharenui Primary School we value the benefits of play. We recognise that play is essential to the learning and development of all children.
Learning through play runs alongside structured group and whole class lessons. This provides a gentle transition from Early Childhood into Primary School.
Children have opportunities to explore their personal interests and urges as they develop social and emotional skills. Our outside environment is an extension of our classrooms. A variety of loose parts are provided for children to use and create with.
Play is seen as an ‘international language’ for children. Play helps children learn, practise and
strengthen their English skills regardless of their first language.
